  1. 13 Colonies with Roanoke, Jamestown, Plymouth denoted

I teach 5th grade with a focus on colonization. One concept is seeing the New World grow from individual settlements to larger colonies. Another concept is focusing on the 3 original colony settlements from Roanoke that disappeared to Jamestown, a merchant colony to Plymouth the religious colony.

  2. For visually impaired learners, I would like to suggest that latitude and longitude line be black. There is not enough contrast with blue.

Latitude and longitude lines need to be black for more contrast when the maps are being projected.

  3. Is it possible to create my own themes?

I would like to select and group various countries into categories. Having a list of countries and being able to drag/drop them into categories or at least click on them and creating my own legend, would be really nice.

  5. Better colors in map keys, more information on maps

For the different maps, it is hard to read the key.
    1. Some maps become readable before the map key does and you have to keep zooming in so you can read it. (For example the US about the time of the American Revolution).
    2. On other maps the colors on the maps don't seem to correspond to the colors in the key or the colors are indistinguishable because they are so close. (For example the Birth Rates map). It would help to use colors that weren't shades of other colors.

The first thing I did was search "American Revolution"…

  6. Needs to be completed

A great instructional tool. ASIA is missing based on my limited search in its world history site.

It cannot be called a World Atlas missing a whole continent!

  7. merdator madness

You need some way of adjusting the projection to the overhead point rather than making Antarctica the world's biggest continent.

I tried to make a map of the Indian Ocean and I save something but I could not see my map, just a whitish rectangle on the larger map with the distance distortions going south.

It would help to have topographic elevation lines and satellite images. That may require a step progression starting with some limit on area looked at befor loading data-heavy layers.

  8. Ancient Empires

It would be great to see the Fertile Crescent and Ancient Egypt. I don't really care about modern Egypt - they aren't really that important. It would make a great addition to any curricula.

  10. Print Dialog orientation

Print dialog should be adjustable to drag to cover some area for example to print U.S. Political map.

  12. Saving Mapshots

Mapshots are not saving pins when edited. There is NO option to "Save" or "Save As" if needed after you alter a mapshot. This makes it difficult if a class is trying to track something point by point or day by day such as the Iditarod Race and the Musher they are following. Please fix this ASAP. My poor students are getting frustrated especially since we are still having trouble getting kicked out of the program randomly. :-(

  13. Ability to control the zoom function

It would be nice to have a more advance zoom function to allow the printing of exact areas.

  14. Minimize tool bar

It would be nice if we would have the ability to minimize the tool bar/menu on the left so that we could have a full screen view of the maps we want to see. When working on a SMART board that is more suited to a square screen (800X600), this menu takes up too much room to maximize the map view.

  15. Individual Maps

I don't see a way to just print an individual country. When you zoom in, the scaling is not right to even just get to that particular country you are trying to get. You should be able to just maybe double click on a particular country and then be able to show just that and layer it or create whatever you need to with it.

  16. A map for every year

Especially in U.S. History, it would be valuable to be able to type a year in U.S. History, and see a layer of a historical map for each year.

  17. Printable maps "standard"

Would be nice if lesson plans included standard map areas for printing...customizing is nice but would be handier to look for a map of a specific continent or hemisphere for quick print - both outline and more detailed outline

  18. need more outlines!

This tool is useful, but only partly. For example: you provide a map of European countries during WWI, but it's already labeled. If we want students to label their own maps, it's only good as a reference. We're still left googling a blank world map of WWI.

It would be lovely to have labeled and unlabeled (outline) maps for the history section.

  19. Minimize or "Hide" the side menu?

You need to make your maps available in a full screen mode.

  20. Contour Maps

I would love to see Contour Maps for science class to look at elevation. Not sure if this is possible, but it's so hard to find good contour line maps online.

    Thanks
